icon at war #11

there is something i'd like to do before i grow too old. i'd like to have a romantic dinner with special person, while jazz, lounge or bossa plays on the background. nice noh... if that would really happen, i'd request for this song to played over dinner....

garota de ipanema

or "girl in ipanema". a song composed by Antonio Carlos Jobim and Portuguese lyrics by Vinicius de Moraes with English lyrics written later by Norman Gimbel.

i actually heard this song way back grade school. very calm, very relaxing...very gay. pang-rampa, ika nga. the song then made me dig into jazz, bossa and lounge music. i can even blame it with my attachment to acoustic music.

apparently, i'm not the only one loving this song. ella fitzgerald, nat king cole and frank sinatra are just a few music icons who recorded this song for their album. "girl in ipanema" won "record of the year" in the grammy's of 1965.

on the playlist, is a version my jobim and another version by our homegrown bossa diva, sitti navarro.

fairygodflower says: alam mo 'teh, tingin ko ang flirt ng song na yan... pero keri na rin...

bitchywitch says: ay tama ka mare, feeling ko pwede syang music while i'm walkin na naka pek-pek shorts. davah?!...

When she walks, shes like a samba. That swings so cool and sways so gentle. That when she passes, each one she passes goes, ooh
