bisaya kong dako!

relaxing in between war breaks, i happen to pass by gwapito.com and was very impressed by his efforts to spread bisaya – the language of central and most of southern philippines. you see, more people consider bisaya as their mother tongue though everybody understands tagalog. before i go further let me define some words here.

filipino
-the austronesian language that is based on tagalog, draws its lexicon from other philippine languages, and is the official language of the philippines.(may also refer to the native of the country)
tagalog
-the austronesian language of the tagalog on which filipino is based.
bisaya/binisaya
-a member of the largest ethnic group indigenous to the philippines, found in the visayan islands.
-the austronesian language of the visayans.

based on the above definitions, our official language is predominantly tagalog. i can’t make a statement though, as to why tagalog was declared the wikang pambansa back 1939(or 1937?) by pres. manuel quezon, other than he is also tagalog himself. (no discrimination here) based on the map below(by wikipedia) bisaya and its dialects are widely spoken in the philippines a compared to tagalog. since the declaration is already done centuries ago and all schools are using filipino/tagalog as one of the two media of instruction(the other one is english), us visayan bloggers will be spreading our language through our blogs.

katagalugan

kabisaya-an(kabisay-an)

bisaya/binisaya is actually made up of several dialects with cebuano being widely spoken. other's include boholano, surigaonon, waray-waray, masbatenyo, ilonggo and other dialects.

so, let's start. we will use cebuano here in my blog. here are some common words/phrases from gwapito.com:

Everyday Conversation
English – Cebuano

Good day – Maayong adlaw
Good morning – Maayong buntag
Good noon – Maayong udto
Good afternoon – Maayong hapon
Good evening/night – Maayong gabii
Thank you – Salamat; salamat sa imo, salamat nimo
Thank you very much – Daghan kaayong salamat; salamat kayo
You are welcome – Wala’y sapayan
Please – Palihug
Come in – Dayon
Welcome – Maayong pag-abot
Excuse – Tabi
I am sorry – Gikasubo nako(expressing regret), Pasayloa ko(as an apology)
At once – Karon dayon
Later on – Taod-taod
By and by – Unya
Who – Kinsa
What – Unsa
Where – Asa
When – Kanus-a
What else – Unsa pa
Who else – Kinsa pa
Where else – Asa pa, Hain pa

i have also made a list of words in english-tagalog-bisaya translation below.

body parts:
english - tagalog - bisaya
head - ulo - ulo
hair - buhok - buhok
forehead - no'o - agtang
ear - tenga - dalunggan
eyebrow - kilay - kilay
eyelash - pilik'mata - pilok
eye - mata - mata
nose - ilong - ilong
cheek - pisngi - aping
lip - labi - wa'it
mouth - bibig - ba'ba'
teeth - ngipin - ngipon
tongue - dila - dila
chin - baba' - suwang
neck - le'eg - li'og
nape - batok - tangkugo
shoulder - balikat - abaga
arm - braso - braso
elbow - siko - siko
hand - kamay - kamot
finger - daliri - tudlo
nail - kuko' - kuko'
palm - palad - palad
chest - dibdib - dughan
breast - suso - totoy
rib - ??? - gusok(help on this please hehe)
tummy - tiyan - tiyan
belly button - pusod - pusod
hip - bewang - hawak
genital(both) - ari' - kinataw
butt - puwet - lubot
thigh - binti - paa'
knee - tuhod - tuhod
calf - ??? - bagtak(help on this please hehe)
ankle - sakong - tikod
leg/foot - pa'a - ti'il
sole - talampakan - lapa'lapa'

some tagalog and bisaya words are actually the same but i can't conclude that bisaya descended from tagalog or vice versa. i'm sure of one thing though, the malay-speaking balangay communities had most of their settlements in central philippines and most of our languages are from those natives.

i am not proposing that bisaya shall be our wikang pambansa(national language). gwapito.com and i are aiming for education, awareness , to lessen discrimination and to celebrate our ethnicity and comments are welcome.

more word translations will follow soon or you can read a blog of pure bisaya here.

queer icon at war #5

it's my honor to blog about a very respectable woman, no she's not lesbian but her works inspires the whole world to care for the sick and challenge the norm. she is my icon, she is...

Florence Nightingale

Order of Merit, Royal Red Cross (12 May 1820 – 13 August 1910), who came to be known as The Lady with the Lamp, was a pioneer of modern nursing and a noted statistician.

Florence Nightingale's lasting contribution has been her role in founding the modern nursing profession. She set a shining example for nurses everywhere of compassion, commitment to patient care, and diligent and thoughtful hospital administration.

the International Year of the Nurse will be this 2010 (the centennial of Nightingale's death) and the UN Decade for a Healthy World will be on 2011 to 2020 (the bicentennial of Nightingale's birth).

-wikipedia.org

--------------------------------------

what makes her my queer icon is her dauntless move to deviate from the role expected by society from a woman. belonging to a well-off family, she volunteered to nurse the sick and war casualties - a job being frowned upon by society in her era. she even had the face to question and propose change to the old system of european medical care. now, the world know her as the mother of nursing and if i were a pope, i'd proclaim her as a saint.

to all you sisters and minorities out there, some people may frown upon us but we should not let our heads down and walk with the shame that they have labeled against us. be proud you are different. it is your unique identity that lives beyond your grave and it is the desire for change which makes civilization prosper unto the dreams made only on beauty pageants...world peace!

*would also like to commend my brother tedji ,the squire, for receiving his badge yesterday. his badge bestows him the power to extend his hands-on medical and community service. he is now on his second year of learning under the wisdom and teachings of nightingale.

----------------------------------------

fairygodflower says: it is also nice to note that we are one of the good exporters of nurses. masaya, noh?...pwede tayong i-label as "the country with a lamp"

you ask me why I do not write something.... I think one's feelings waste themselves in words, they ought all to be distilled into actions and into actions which bring results.

aloha 'oe

*post edited
this is probably the sweetest goodbye you could ever sing to someone:

Aloha `Oe

Aloha `oe, aloha `oe
Farewell (to) Thee, farewell (to) Thee
E ke onaona noho i ka lipo
Sweet fragrance dwelling in the dark forest
"One fond embrace", a ho`i a`e au
One fond embrace, before I now leave

"Until we meet again."

AlohaʻOe(Farewell to Thee) was written by Queen Liliʻuokalani, (1838-1917,) the last reigning queen of Hawaiʻi. the song was written for two lovers in 1878. full lyrics here.

i'm not saying goodbye so i'll just say: mahalo(thank you) for always visiting my blog!

*thank you to harold: the guardian for proofreading my entries.

bitchywitch says: anoh daw? aloha boys?... ay ganda: aloha boys! aloha boys! ako-una-hipo-hipo-one-fond-embrace...until we meet again. nyahaha

The aloha spirit and the concept of ohana are not mere words to us, they mean that we care for other each including those we don't know.

am i cheap?

i am not an impulse buyer and i always prepare a list of things to buy when i go to a mall. you can safely say that i think like a straight male when i shop or do my groceries. i still stay long when i do go to a mall looking for stuff that i would be buying next time i drop by.

but then there are times when u just can't resist buying especially if you see a pair of decent looking trousers priced at Php199.75!...and they weren't even on sale.

i thought they were probably of cheap and weak materials so i took one out from the rack and looked for a fitting room. fit. jump. stretch. sit on the floor. split. shake and sashay. fitting and testing it actually made me sweat but then the cheap slacks was still intact. actually, even if it disintegrates after a week, i wouldn't mind so i bought two.

it really is cheap and it was obviously of asian brand... i really love asia ;-)

it has been two weeks now when i got them and they're still alive. by the way, aodehan was the brand name.

pop the magic wedding idea

something really serious from the princess.

[quote] a gay couple's willingness to commit themselves into a sacrament as holy as marriage, solidly proves that their relationship is based on love and not only on lust. [unquote]

fairygodflower says: this post is not intended to start any debate or argument. the idea just popped out in princess' head while on a duel kaya relax lang mga ateh.

village people

formed in 1977, the village people made disco dance hits that became a part of the colorful gay culture. they are famous for their bouncy tunes, connotative lyrics and of course their gay-themed costumes. a few of their songs are macho man, can't stop the music, in the navy and their greatest YMCA.

original members were:
  • Alex Briley - the G.I./Sailor
  • David "Scar" Hodo - the Construction Worker
  • Felipe Rose - the Indian
  • Glenn Hughes - the Leatherman/Biker
  • Randy Jones - the Cowboy
  • Victor Willis- the Policeman
at present, every retro party would not be complete without the songs from the village people and the group is busy with world tours(minus glenn hughes who died on 2001).

so fags around the world get your hot ass up, dance and shout: waaay em si ey. waaay em si eheeey!!!

give twice of what u spent?

i went out of the office a bit earlier. so when stopped on my usual karenderia for supper, namangha ako sa dami ng peepol na nag-aagawang ng pagkain, mesa at tindera. first day of classes pala ngayon. ampotahh!

walk-in ang beauty ko then pumili ng hapunan. chopsuey ang ulam at one rice. walang mga fafa pero wala ring pila. and so, kain, kain, nguya, lunok and pose. kain, nguya and pose and so on. pagkatapos ng healthy na lafang nag pose ulit at nag speech:

princess aries: ate magkano ho?

ate: jeez.

gelay: migo, can ask something from u? (english talagah teh)

princess aries: huh?

gelay: (umiiyak na sya)i'm supposed to meet my sister kasi then di niya ako sinipot. lobat na rin ung fone ko then wla na talaga akong pera pauwi. can i ask kahit 20 pesos lang pamasahe?

princess aries:(dukot) here.

when i go out to eat, i'm only bringing my coin purse instead of my wallet. if i had not found that eatery, that was already there before (di ko lang talaga pinansin) , i would only have a few coins left on my purse which wouldn't be enough for a jeepney ride for that pregnant girl even if she takes all of it.

bitchywitch says: sana nag korean ka nalang nung nakipag usap ung mujer! jugule! tapos walk-out... nyahahah!

--------------------------------------------

bitchywitch says: stress yan, teh. hayaan mo lilipas din yan... subukan mo munang mag sariling sikap. nyahahaha...

fairygodflower says: ay may ganun?... pro di ba may pampatulog na ginagamit sa action movies. ung pinapa amoy sa gelay nung bida pag kinikidnap?...

Insomnia is a gross feeder. It will nourish itself on any kind of thinking, including thinking about not thinking.

queer icon at war #3

when i was still the only child, i would spend my day looking at mom cleaning her drawer of toiletries and make-up. sometimes when she prepares herself for a night out, i would happily hop into their bed and look at her while she puts on her make-up.

at dahil maldita ako, i often creep into their room and play with her kikay kit.

step one. i saw her putting on something in her face but i couldn't identify it(i soon found out it was called foundation) so i settled for the blush-on. it looked bad on me. since i still had the baby skin, i looked like porcelain clown doll. nagmukha akong horror movie!

step two. this was a life changing moment. i took the stuff out from the drawer. pulled out the cover and rubbed it slowly on my lips... hangganda ko!!! and soon i would find myself playing that and only that when i sneak into their room playing with me, myself and my mom's...

lipstick

magarbo ang mother ko sa mga make-up chorvah collection nya. kaya get one and pass ang eksena ko sa room nila. wahahaha.

but now, i've changed my choice of lip ornament. i left my fascination of lipsticks along with my childhood and decided to wear only lip balm and on special occasions, a thin layer of lip gloss.

Beauty, to me, is about being comfortable in your own skin. That, or a kick-ass red lipstick.

knights out

fairygodflower says: hear ye! hear ye! gosh moment ko na to...

the princess has announced her involvement in a 2-month war. apparently, the war is going to be extended into three months. more work awaits and the pressure is starting to seep in our beautiful sexy heads. due to this, our supposedly weekly post for "the knight and shining armour" might not see the light of the queer day. we are so sorry for a failed promise, my comrades. the war has been harsh but we will definitely be posting entries about the men who have passed and whom we'd like to pass our lives. thank you and world peace...

i so miss the days when people wear those funny "costumes", wear really big hair and radios play our queer icon this week. my queer icon for this week is a song done by debbie gibson in the spring of 1989. friends, foes and fags... lend me your ears and bandwidth.

------------------------------------------------

electric youth

"Electric Youth" is the second single from the Debbie Gibson album of the same name. Issued as a single, it became one of her most famous songs and just missed the top ten in both the U.S. (number eleven) and the UK (number fourteen). Gibson had written the song as a statement about how young people of that era were seen and how their ideas were often ignored. As a teenager herself, she was a firm believer that the beliefs and ideas held by young people were just as important as those held by adults and the song reminded people of this. It also reminded them that the current youth would become the next generation of adults.

bitchywitch says: as the princess' legal adviser i would like to present to the whole world the proof of her encounters in the land famously known for its thousand nipple-like land formations and small creatures with ridiculously enormous eyes. let the table be opened for presentation.

I. Sagbayan Peak and Butterfly Sanctuary.

let the following images be labeled as exhibit A-1, A-2, A-3 and A-4 respectively as proof that our highness has seen and stepped into such place.

A-1: a view of the second hill which serves as a viewing deck providing a 360 view of sagbayan. one can actually see the cebu city lights at night from here. everyone is advised to save this place for sunset. at the foreground is the butterfly sanctuary

A-2: its the princess, who else?

A-3: one of the butterflies at the butterfly sanctuary captures at flight (just within sagbayan peak)

before i proceed on the next image, i would like to mention that sagbayan peak also has their own captive tarsiers and their sagbayan peak water park is already open. now before you make your grand exit from the said place, take a look around and hanapin nyo ito:

A-4: ang ganda ng drawing!

II. Chocolate Hills

below are the magnificent views that greeted the primera familia on their visit to chocolate hills. by the way, this is the princess' first visit after more then 22 years of living in boholandia. let the following images be marked as exhibit B-1, B-2, B-3 and B-4 respectively.

B-1: the entrance viewed from their lower observation deck

B-2: the pondering princess

B-3: the proud limestone formations bragging all their natural beauty

may it also be heard that the public is advised to thoroughly check whatever souvenir items that you want to buy which are sold in the area as their are a lot cheaper items on other places of the same quality. pero kung wala kayong magawa pagkatapos makita ang mga chokolateng burol, hanapin ito:

B-4: yan ang art!

III. Man-Made Forest and Hanging Bridge

to reach the next spot our the royal family has to pass the ever amazing man-made forest. to further present our proof, let the following images be tagged as exhibit C-1, C-2, C-3, C-4, C-5 and C-6 respectively.

C-1: blurry image of the man-made forest (captured on a moving vehicle)

C-2: hanging bridge over loboc water

C-3: the princess before prancing over the bridge. ang taray!

C-4: clean green waters of loboc river, just below the hanging bridge.

C-5: one would be greeted by this simple and cute cottage of cheaper souvenir items at the end of the bridge and...

C-6: you can also buy fresh buko from there. saya noh?

IV. Tarsier and Loboc River Cruise

and this is the most exciting part of the journey. again may i present to the public exhibits D-2 to D-8.

D-1: spot the tarsier

D-2: tarsier: the maldita mode

D-3: tarsier: the cute mode

D-4: an underground water source of loboc river. it was here that the princess and one of her siblings took off their clothes and jumped on the cool waters of the river. mga pasaway.

D-5: the loboc river. gandah noh?

D-6: riverside forest, a protected area and habitat for tarsiers

D-7: end of the trip. the rushing waterfalls serves as the major source of loboc river. fresh from the mountains daw ito.

hindi na sila nakapag floating resto. they took the loboc river cruise at sa lahat ng mga baklang gustong mag river cruise, hanapin siya:

D-8: he was the boatman who toured and fluently talked about the loboc river while driving the boat. (he actually looked like a thai gay twink porn star with a swimmers bod hehehe...)

V. Longest and Biggest Python

the familia royale dropped on a private residents' house to take a look on wierd looking creatures of which the main attraction was their python among other faunas. let the following proof be marked as exhibit E-1, E-2, E-3 and E-4 respectively.

E-1: the python named Prony

E-2: flying lemur (a.k.a. kagwang) housemate actually sila ni prony

E-3: a few of the many caged animals were these two cute little owls

for those who want to be entertained while ogling on these creatures, hanapin nyo siya:

E-4: an unknown specie among the beasts

VI. Baclayon Church

the Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception was the last stop for the royal family. sitting in a quite town of baclayon, this church is considered the oldest in the philippines and a solid proof of spanish influence on us. let the images below also be a solid proof the family's visit to the church and be marked as exhibit F-1, F-2, F-3 and F-4 respectively.

F-1: the church viewed from east

F-2: the convent next to the church

F-3: church interior. they still have that pulpit and they also have...

F-4: an organ!!!(hehe)

that concludes my presentation. i hereby declare my assurance that all evidences presented are true and authentic. so help me god. charing!
